If you are a fan of How to Train Your Dragon book series, Inkheart trilogy, or The Lord of the Rings trilogy, then you do not want to miss the reading of The Wingfeather Saga by its author Andrew Peterson. The first book in the series is On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness.
Last year I listened to all the books in the Wingfeather Saga, so when I discovered that Andrew Peterson wanted to provide something to families homebound due to the COVID-19 stay-home mandates, I was thrilled. Originally, he was going to read for about half an hour every night through Facebook live beginning at 7:30 p.m. central time. Then he planned to post the video for 24 hours for those who could not watch it live.
Thankfully, the response has been overwhelming. His publisher has extended the amount of time the readings will be posted. An ending time has not been announced, so I encourage you to jump on the bandwagon now! You can find out more about The Wingfeather Saga on Facebook.
To help you, I am providing direct links below. The first two readings are only on Facebook. The following readings are on both Facebook, YouTube, and a site I do not remember. For the rest of the readings, I am providing the YouTube links, especially to help those without a Facebook account. Once you find The Wingfeather Saga on either Facebook or YouTube, you can also “follow” or “subscribe” to keep up-to-date.

Since the reading of the first book has become so popular and since the stay-home quarantine continues, Andrew Peterson will begin reading the next book in the series, North! or Be Eaten! When you are finished with On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness.
Can the whole family listen? Maybe not the little ones. However, my daughter, who has four little boys from 1 to 8, reads the books aloud to them, and they love the books, especially since it has monsters, dragons, adventure, and some “gross” descriptions, such as maggot loaf. If you are parent listen to a few chapters and then decide.
Are these just “kids” books? Nope! They are full of adventure, intrigue, loss, bravery, sacrifice, hope, joy, sorrow, layers of development, and plenty of twists and turns.Again, you can join the readings live at 7:30 p.m. (central time) nightly at The Wingfeather Saga on Facebook. I would love to hear what you think. When you finish with this book, continue with Wingfeather Saga: North! or Be Eaten!
We love them!! The boys are drawing their own Creaturpedia books while we listen to Andrew Peterson read each night.
P.S. When we bought the books, they recommended ages 8 and up, but my six year old loved them, too. I would definitely feel it out for kids under 8 and use your judgement. 🙂
Thank you for introducing me to this series. I have added it to my mental list of books that every family library should have.
